How much has Alation raised?

Alation’s own Series E announcement states total funding of $340M. Earlier rounds are less central to the current profile than the 2021 and 2022 growth rounds, which established unicorn status and then lifted valuation above $1.7B.

Thoma Bravo led the Series E, Riverwood led the Series D, and investors include Costanoa, DCVC, Dell Technologies Capital, HPE, Salesforce Ventures, Sapphire Ventures, Snowflake Ventures, and Sanabil. a16z lists Alation in its official investment list, adding provenance even though the latest rounds were led by other firms.

Alation’s valuation moved from $1.2B in 2021 to more than $1.7B in 2022 because demand for data governance, cloud migration, and AI-ready metadata increased. The valuation has not been publicly reset since, so any current private secondary mark would be speculative.

Alation is private and has not announced an IPO date. The company passed $100M ARR before the Series E, which gives it scale, but IPO readiness would still depend on growth, retention, margins, and public software-market conditions.

Alation’s capital base supports enterprise sales, connectors, AI features, and global support. Sellers should target data-platform integrations, governance workflows, security, cloud marketplace routes, and AI-readiness programs with proof that they expand platform adoption.
